Accident Investigators can use the data from the Jupiter Data Recorder to reconstruct the motion of a vehicle prior to, during and after a collision. This allows investigators to analyse, in detail, the manner of driving immediately prior to the incident. The presence of journey data also allows investigators to view the driving in the hours before the collision.

The on-board accelerometers, gyros and direction sensors combine with the signals from the vehicle to allow investigators to get a detailed analysis of the motion of a vehicle.
The Europa Data Recorder can be fitted with an incident switch so that when the driver presses the switch, detailed incident data is available even if no collision has taken place. Drivers find this feature useful in the event of a "vicinity collision" where there is an incident nearby and they want to protect the data to provide proof of how they were driving at the time.
